Marianne Canada and HGTV are here to show how to make a gougere recipe that is easy but impressive enough for any holiday gathering. They can be made ahead and stored in the freezer, so you are always ready for a warm homemade treat at a moment’s notice.
The ingredients include cheese, salt, water, eggs, flour and butter. Marianne places the water, butter and salt in a saucepan and heats them on the stove until they reach a rolling boil and the butter is melted. She then removes it and adds the flour, stirring it into dough. Marianne returns the mixture to the heat and stirs constantly for three to five minutes until it glistens and a wooden spoon will stand in the middle.
Next, Marianne puts the dough in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment and beats for one minute on medium low. She next adds the eggs in four installments scraping the sides of the bowl between each addition. Lastly, Marianne adds the cheese. She says these are usually made with gruyere cheese, but other cheeses may be used.
Marianne bakes the Gougere for warm, crispy pastry puffs. This recipe can be frozen for up to three months before or after cooking.
