August 20th is National Lemonade Day, and while we’ve been sipping on the refreshing summer drink since the temperatures started rising in April, it seems like it never tastes as sweet as it does in the dog days of summer.

By August we’ve all just about had it with the heat and humidity and we’re in desperate search for something that will cool us down. In comes some iced lemonade to save the day.

While you can always buy ready-to-mix powders in store, we think those taste pretty vile in comparison to freshly prepared homemade lemonade.

The video above shows you how easy it really is to make the refreshment. Not much of a lemonade lover – or at least not as much as I am? Not to fret. Host, Rebecca Brayton will show you how to make Iced Tea and even a Watermelon Cooler.

But for the main attraction, all you will need are the following:

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Lemon Juice (approx 4-6 lemons)
  • 3-4 Cups COLD Water

Technically, these 3 ingredients are all something you probably already have lying around your home! Better yet, the instructions are just as easy to follow as the ingredients.

Something new I learned about making the perfect pitcher of homemade lemonade is to heat the sugar and water until it’s dissolved beforehand. Then all you need to do is combine the rest of the ingredients and add ice!

When serving, tiny umbrellas are optional, but I can’t say I wouldn’t enjoy just that while lounging on my porch on a hot summer night.

These beverages are the perfect thing to serve at your next (and maybe final!) barbecues or outdoor parties. Better yet, you know just what end-of-summer long weekend is coming up? Labor Day! Make sure to serve these up for a true taste of summer.
