In an effort to create press and frenzy around around Peace One Day, a non-profit that is lobbying to designate September 21st as Peace Day, Burger King has propose a truce with McDonald’s in the form of a “McWhopper” – the combination of each fast food chain’s most popular burger.

In an open letter on The New York Times on Wednesday, Burger King proposed setting aside the (real but also proverbial) “beef” with Ronald McDonald by creating a special space to sell the joint burger – hiring employees from both franchises and using special uniforms. While what would really settle whether or not we dine there is who would be in charge of the fries, it looks like Micky D has settled this once and for all by putting their foot down.

In what seems like the most passive aggressive Facebook post of all time, McDonald’s responded:

Dear Burger King,

Inspiration for a good cause… great idea.

We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference.

We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you’ll join us in a meaningful global effort?

And every day, let’s acknowledge that between us there is simply a friendly business competition and certainly not the unequaled circumstances of the real pain and suffering of war.

We’ll be in touch.

-Steve, McDonald’s CEO

P.S. A simple phone call will do next time.

What really got us was the “P.S.” at the end of the message. Really? Really?

While in all honest I am not a fan of either, you would think that when it comes to a peace talk, there might be a nicer way to say “never in a million years.” This is especially true because they made some poor web developer build a WHOLE WEBSITE dedicated to the cause.

Oh well, for now if you want to eat both the Whopper and Big Mac in one sitting, just buy both separately, place them on top of each other and then call your doctor for impending  cardiac arrest. But hey, at least you’ll get double the fries.

Would you have eaten the McWhopper?
