When it comes to preparing for a picnic, the ultimate goal is to be “cute”.

Let’s be honest, every time I ask my friends to go on a picnic with me I just have an image of people in big hats lounging lavishly on a perfectly checkered picnic blanket, eating off gorgeous picnic dishes and silverware that they stash in adorable wicker picnic baskets…

However, the reality is usually this: All of us ending up at the Whole Foods “hot foods” section, spooning abnormal amounts of food into little cardboard trays only to find out that they cost about half a week’s worth groceries. Of course, the food is great (I’m a firm believer in that you get what you pay for), but upon arrival at said picnic spot, everything has been jumbled around and looks like mush. Not so cute anymore, huh?

Put an end to jumbled mush now that the weather is nice and commit to having a cute picnic soirée. Make sandwiches, pasta salads and adorable portable desserts. Below are just a few ideas to get you started.
