Happy National Sushi Day!

Sushi is great. It’s essentially a whole meal wrapped up in bite-sized portions, so what could be better than that? In California, sushi is so popular and such a big deal that it’s almost become a verb. Instead of saying “Let’s get sushi” as most normal folk would say, they say “Let’s go to sushi”.

Seriously, just watch a couple of episodes of Laguna Beach and you’ll catch on to this odd trend.

Anyways, Cali isn’t the only place in the states where sushi is a big deal. It’s mainly widespread, but in order to get some quality sushi, it’s more likely that you will have to head to the closest metropolitan area. For example, New York has some horrendous options, but they also have some great sushi spots.

For big spenders, Sushi of Gari is highly recommended, while MOMOYA in Chelsea offers up exceptional options as well, is less “scene-y” and is slightly more affordable.

If you can’t make it to these spots, or don’t trust the questionable “raw tuna” in your readily-prepared sushi from your local grocer (we don’t blame you), I highly recommend attempting to make your own sushi at home!

It’s certainly harder than some dishes, but it’s fun and you know what they say : Practice makes perfect! Try one of these decadent rolls and your taste buds will surely thank you.
