When a dish or baked good comes out of the oven, it alway brings a  slight tear to my eye because it’s just so darn beautiful. Freshly prepared, the aroma of any sweet or savory concoction is enough to make our appetites grow double or triple its natural size.

That being said… there is plenty of food on Earth that is a whole lot less enticing – at least, physically speaking. We hate to judge a book by its cover but these ingredients (oftentimes referred to as “delicacies”) are enough to make our stomachs turn. Even as I am sitting here having to look deep into the eyes of the monkfish below I am cringing and grimacing uncontrollably.

Some of my coworkers may describe my expression as being reminiscent of an epileptic fit, so I will get along with the rest of this post before I reach the end of my rope…

1. Monkfish

The monkfish looks like it came straight out of a children’s novel starring as a creepy sea monster, but it has been harvested for its tail meat and liver. As a matter of fact, in many Asian countries, this interesting species has been feature whole in seafood markets. I mean, who could pass up an opportunity to bring home this beauty?
